How we began
Joyskills began when we wanted to help others find the joy and freedom we were discovering through combining classic Christian formation with our new understanding of brain science. We began with ten weeks of skills training and teaching using brain science and prayer that we offered through our local church setting to help people develop healthy relational skills.
The idea came from our desire to see healing and breakthrough in the trauma and PTSD that we had both experienced personally. We had pursued healing from many avenues of christian healing and deliverance over the years, but when Ruth couldn't get out of a chronic panic attack lasting 3 months we came across The Life Model and other life-changing prayer approaches.
We began to put into practice the skills and thinking we were discovering and found that on this daily healing journey our lives changed for the better. These new brain skills and prayer helped stop the panic attacks. As we researched, lived out and trained others, we found that people were stepping into new ways of connecting with and encountering Jesus, Immanuel. And as we ourselves learnt the most fundamental skills of going to the one we are glad to be with rather than filling the void, our connecting with each other and God has brought lasting inner healing. The joy keeps growing!
Our unique approach has emerged through combining Ruth’s artistic and transformational emphasis with Mike’s researching, teaching and coaching approach.
We believe that our relationship with God can be transformational as a source of life to ourselves, our families and the world - touching our spirits, our emotions, our thoughts and our relationships.
By integrating the latest neuroscience techniques with Christian Spirituality and Biblical Values, we empower and equip others with the skills to build healthy, authentic relationships that will bring personal transformation to themselves and to those they love.
